The insinuation by the Johor DAP chairman YB Liew Chin Tong that MCA is impatient to re-enter Cabinet by raising up Ops Lalang as our party’s by-election campaign not only hits below the belt, but is a matter of a pot calling the kettle black. The political campaign for the Kajang state seat should be issues-based and not an opportunity for DAP to take pot shots and belittle the overwhelming decision by MCA central delegates that our party return to government or come up with preposterous allusions.
After all, is it not PKR’s contender Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is lusting for power and DAP turns a blind eye to this power grab? In 2008, Anwar forced his wife Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to relinquish her Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat so that he could enter the Dewan Rakyat as an Opposition lawmaker? From lowering the representation of women in Parliament, now in Kajang, he wants to reduce diversity in the State Assembly by forcing the incumbent Lee Chin Cheh to vacate his seat besides ousting incumbent Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and grabbing that chair.
Perhaps DAP is willingly to be hoodwinked by Anwar. Nevertheless we urge Kajang voters to be aware that Anwar will not represent the multiracial stance Pakatan appears to stand claims to fight for.
Anwar is the roots of Ops Lalang which MCA fell victim to
On the contrary, it was Anwar as the Education Minister who initiated moves that were detrimental towards the multicultural facets of our country ie he strongly hindered the development of Chinese education when he posted some 100 non-Chinese educated senior assistants and principals to head Chinese primary schools, thereby causing a severe communication barrier, and even worse, failure to comprehend the needs or syllabus of vernacular schools. Despite widespread outrage from MCA and other political parties, social activists and NGOs, Anwar refused to retract the order which was insensitive to the needs of the teachers, parents and most importantly, the learning process and growth of pupils.
Considering that DAP heavyweights had also participated in the protests, DAP today will have some shred of credibility had the Rocket acknowledged the PKR self-proclaimed “world class leader” intent to suppress vernacular education. But for the sake of political expediency and to show a so-called united front, DAP has conveniently forgotten Anwar playedthe key role for the launch of Ops Lalang.
I wish to jolt YB Liew’s memory as obviously he either really cannot remember or practises selective amnesia that in 1987 MCA had set aside political affiliation when like DAP, MCA too had protested against this instruction by Anwar. MCA leaders like Dato’ Seri Tan Chai Ho, Yap Pian Hon and Chan Kit Chee too were detained under the Internal Security Act during Ops Lalang.
